Hi everyone and Happy Earth Month! This month we will have a series of blog posts dedicated to different topics in sustainability. They will build on each other and hopefully offer you some new ways of thinking about the Earth and our place in it.

Last week we talked about how you can be more sustainable in your own practices; however, you are not alone in this process. There are a number of resources across campus and more broadly in the city that support sustainability. Today’s blog post is a list of those resources, so that you can come back to it as you start working towards sustainability.

On Campus

On campus, there are a number of different groups you can go to.

  1. The Sustainability Office is part of facilities and services on campus and is dedicated to embedding sustainability in the university. One of their really cool initiatives is the Free Store on campus (open 12-2, Tuesday-Thursday) where you can find lightly used clothing, books, furniture, and water bottles.
  2. The School of the Environment brings together students and researchers across disciplines that are working in the fields of environment and sustainability. They have ongoing speaker events drawing on this community that we highly encourage you to check out.
  3. UTERN is the University of Toronto’s Student Environmental Resource Network and has a network of clubs and people across the university interested in sustainability, with regular meetings for resource sharing.

Toronto and Canada

  1. Eleanor of StepsTowardsSustainability has collated a list of resources in Toronto that cover a wide variety of elements related to sustainability including waste production, food and gardening, and transportation.
  2. You can visit the City of Toronto’s page for all of their environmental initiatives, including their goal to be carbon neutral by 2040.
  3. We have collected a series of Toronto and Canada resources specific to the environment and music which you can find in our Sustainability in Music LibGuide.

Come back next week to learn about some of the projects we’re taking on behind the scenes at the library!
