As we end the school year with final performances, as the curtain goes down and the applause fades away, it is time to return your ensemble music to the Performance Collection. If you don’t know where the Performance Collection is because you got your music from a student ensemble manager, we (Karen and Nicole) are on the lower level of the Music Library, Room E016. The Performance Collection is not to be confused with the Performance Office (Eddy and Amanda) on the main floor of the Edward Johnson Building. We are open in the afternoons, Monday to Friday, 1:00 to 4:30pm.
Since moving many of our concerts offsite with the temporary closure of MacMillan Theatre, the regular practice of leaving your music on the stage after the concert for the ensemble managers to collect has changed (unless your concert is here in Walter Hall). Students need to bring their music back to the Faculty of Music. If you have another rehearsal after your final concert, music may be collected there. Please listen to any announcements from the conductor or student managers and watch out for any emails giving instructions for returning your music.
We take all music back (going back to your first concert of the year), including photocopies. Some of the music you may have could be rental parts. These parts are especially important to return quickly. Rental music has a firm due date and charges for the late return of music. As to the St. John’s instrumental folders, there is no need to return them; you can keep your folder.
So, should you find yourself with music still in your folder, instrument case or locker, please return the music as soon as possible to the Performance Collection. The due date for returning the music is April 10, 2024. If the office is closed, you can take it to the main circulation desk in the Music Library.
P.S. Yes, there are pennies for the gumball machine!
