Welcome back to the Music Library! We are so excited to be starting a new school year with you. The Music Library has been undergoing a lot of changes in the last little while and so our hope with this blogpost is to get you up to speed with them. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop by our circulation desk.

#1 Our renovation is still ongoing

First, we wanted to update you that our renovation is taking a little longer than we had anticipated. You can find more detailed information on the renovation in our blogpost dedicated to it. As the renovation is still ongoing, there are some changes to the library that will be happening as we start the school year. We will try to keep you up to date as this continues.

#2 We are recruiting for a research project

An exciting piece of news is the Music Library is conducting a research project and we want to hear from you. The project starts in September and will involve participating in a focus group with your peers. We will ask about your experience at the library and what services you use. We are hoping to learn more about how the Faculty of Music uses the library and what we can do to improve. If you are interested in participating, you can sign up here.

#3 New technology loans available

Podcasting kitWe are also thrilled to share that we have been adding new technology loans to our collection for you to use. In particular, we have added a podcasting kit to our resources. That’s right – you are now able to jumpstart your podcasting dreams. This kit includes microphones, headphones, and an audio controller.

For a full list of our technology loans, you can refer to our website

#4 Lots of online resources for you to use

While this is not new, we do want to re-emphasize the electronic resources that are available to you through the library. There are so many amazing platforms that we subscribe to so you can do your best learning.

Most important for you to know is nKoda. The University of Toronto has a subscription to nKoda – an app where you are able to access over 100,000 digital editions of music scores from top publishers. nKoda also has advanced score reading features to help you with your studies.

You are also able to access BabelScores to read contemporary music scores and listen to recordings. Their collection predominantly features unique and innovative work.

We have also recently added Alexander Street Press’ collection of Boosey & Hawkes scores. The Boosey and Hawkes Collection presents masterpieces from one of the world's most esteemed classical music publishers.

#5 We are here for you

Something that hasn’t changed is that the library is always here for you. If you are entering your first year or your 70th year, we hope to be able to answer any questions you may have. A reminder that you are always welcome to book a reference appointment with us, start a chat online, or use any of our research guides to help you with your courses. The library is here fundamentally to support the Faculty of Music, so be sure to use it to the fullest!

Thank you for catching up with us. We cannot wait to see you in the library!
