The Music Library begins Fall Hours on Tuesday, September 3rd and we can't wait to see you!

If you were here last year, you might notice the space looks a little different; we are refreshing our main entrance and service desk to provide:

  • More comfortable seating
  • Improved teaching and event space
  • Re-sized service counter for improved accessibility and additional public space
  • Redistribution of computer workstations: one at the entrance, eight around the corner from the service desk, and one on the lower level of the library
  • New carpet
  • Improved sight lines to the staircase
  • Click for more information

The library provides numerous services and resources to students, faculty, and staff throughout the year. Here are a few helpful hints and reminders to start you off on a successful academic year at the library:

  1. Books, periodicals, and sound recordings are on the main level of the library; music scores are on the lower level. See maps of our shelves to help you navigate the library.
  2. We have plenty of study tables and carrels; graduate students can book a study carrel for the year.
  3. There are MANY ways to get help finding repertoire, researching for an essay, or finding a place to study:
    • Drop In:  Ask for help at the service desk. We can help you face-to-face or set up a virtual meeting according to your preference.
    • Our People: This page lists all our staff and their contact information. Please reach out, we’ll be glad to help!
    • Book a Research Consultation: Book a 30 min. appointment with our experienced staff.
  4. Copier-printer-scanner machines: copying and printing is $0.15 per page and is black and white only. Scanning is free. Bring your own USB drive for scanning or borrow one from the service desk.
  5. Borrowing materials: Bring your TCard. This page has a list of loan periods according to borrower type. You can also read about automatic renewals. Your library materials will be automatically renewed on their due date unless another patron is waiting for them.
  6. In a hurry? Use the “request a hold” feature in our library catalogue and your items will be waiting for you at the service desk when you come in.
  7. Stay in touch! Follow us on Instagram @uoftmusiclib and check our blog, “Notes from the Music Library,” for updates, stories, and lists of recent acquisitions.

If you have any questions or suggestions throughout the semester, I would be glad to hear from you. Have a great year!

Warm regards,
